Bedard's Daily Briefing 12.27.18: BC's bowl game canceled; Bruins & Celtics back in action

Good morning!

A few random thoughts while I try to figure out how a bowl game sponsored by a water-cleanup company (SERVPRO) with a slogan of "Like It Never Happened" makes a game that started never happen ... we should have known... 

• What an embarrassment for the Cotton Bowl, the city of Dallas (now out $300,000), Boston College and Boise State. They shlep all the way down there — during a holiday week no less — and they can't even play the game.


• The NCAA says it's believed to be the first-ever bowl game canceled.


• BC's trying to make things right with its fans, but that's a tough blow.

• Hey Patriots fans ... your postseason advantage will come from your schedule.


• As if there was any doubt (I didn't have any), Tom Brady says he'll be back next season.


• Jayson Tatum needs to keep doing a lot more of this, continuing tonight against the Rockets.


• I'm no NBA expert, but I know Jaylen Brown got a lot of flak for the Celtics' slow start ... I actually think Tatum has been the biggest issue with the team. He gets a lot of puzzled and mildly miffed looks from his teammates during games with his shot selection and lack of defense at times. Keep cleaning it up young buck.


• Bruins host the slumping Devils tonight. They're in last place in the Metro. Bruins need to grab these points, and it would help if Ryan Donato keeps coming on.


• Watched some of the World Juniors ... what an embarrassment that Canada beat Denmark 14-0. You really had to pour it on, huh? Team USA goalie Kyle Keyser (Bruins prospect) didn't get much action but he was solid.
