AFC Playoff Picture: With two weeks left, who has clearest path to home-field advantage?

The regular season is just about wrapped up, but there are several different possibilities still in play when it comes to the playoff picture. Here’s how things shake out with two weeks left to play:

1. Chiefs (11-3)
Remaining schedule: at Seahawks (8-6), vs. Raiders (3-11)
Opponents record: 11-17 (.393)
The skinny: The truth here is that a win this weekend over the Seahawks in Seattle should fundamentally wrap up the No. 1 seed for the Chiefs. Kansas City has landed the top seed twice previously in the Super Bowl Era — 1995 and 1997. Both times, they lost in the divisional round.

2. Texans (10-4)
Remaining schedule: at Eagles (7-7), vs. Jags (4-10)
Opponents record: 11-17 (.359)
The skinny: How’s this for irony? The Patriots are going to head into the weekend rooting for Lane Johnson and Philly to knock off the Texans. That could conceivably clear a path for New England to land the No. 2 seed.

3. Patriots (9-5)
Remaining schedule: vs. Bills (5-9), vs. Jets (4-10)
Opponents record: 9-19 (.321)
The skinny: File this one under third time’s the charm — New England can clinch the AFC East with a win Sunday over Buffalo. If the playoff started today, the Patriots would host the Ravens in a wild-card game.

4. Steelers (8-5-1)
Remaining schedule: at Saints (12-2), vs. Bengals (6-8)
Opponents record: 18-10 (.643)
The skinny: As we were leaving the press box Sunday night, a local Pittsburgh sports show was doing a roundtable wrap-up of the Steelers and where they stood after 14 games. The panelists were asked: What sort of team are the Steelers? The team that won six in a row earlier in the season, or the one that lost three straight before Sunday’s win over the Patriots? No one could really answer the question.

5. Chargers (11-3)
Remaining schedule: vs. Ravens (8-6), at Broncos (6-8)
Opponents record: 14-14 (.500)
The skinny: If it wasn’t for one dopey mistake at the end of last months game against the Broncos, the Chargers would be in the midst of an 11-game winning streak. As it is, they’ll have to settle for 10 wins in their last 11 games and a playoff berth. If the playoff started this week, Los Angeles would be at Pittsburgh for a wild-card game.

6. Ravens (8-6)
Remaining schedule: at Chargers (11-3), vs. Browns (6-7-1)
Opponents record: 17-10-1 (.625)
The skinny: Given Baltimore up-and-down season, it would be a perfect encapsulation of its season if the Ravens beat Los Angeles, and then lost to the Browns in the regular-season finale. From a New England perspective, given the Patriots’ struggles in containing mobile quarterbacks, I’d think New England would want no part of Lamar Jackson.

IN THE HUNT

7. Colts (8-6)
Remaining schedule: vs. Giants (5-9), at Titans (8-6)
Opponents record: 13-15 (.464)
The skinny: Depending on how this week’s Chargers-Ravens game shakes out, the Colts could have a shot to make it in the back door of the postseason. But that finale against Tennessee is going to loom awfully large.

8. Titans (8-6)
Remaining schedule: vs. Redskins (7-7), vs. Colts (8-6)
Opponents record: 15-13 (.536)
The skinny: If Tennessee can pull it off, it would mark the first back-to-back trips to the postseason for Tennessee since the 2007 and '08 seasons.

9. Dolphins (7-7)
Remaining schedule: vs. Jaguars (4-10), at Bills (5-9)
Opponents record: 9-19 (.321)
The skinny: Sunday’s loss to the Vikings in Minnesota just about does it for Miami, but the Dolphins could still easily finish with a 9-7 mark, which would mark the second time in 10 seasons Miami would finish better than .500

10. Browns (6-7-1)
Remaining schedule: vs. Bengals (6-8), at Ravens (8-6)
Opponents record: 14-14 (.500)
The skinny: Here we are in December and Cleveland is still technically in the playoff chase. That in and of itself is probably enough of a victory for Browns’ fans.
