EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. -- The Patriots’ offense had little trouble against the Jets on Sunday, topping 200 yards on the ground for the first time in four-plus years, while Tom Brady was 20-for-31 for 283 yards and a pair of touchdowns on the way to a 27-13 win at MetLife Stadium.
Brady got a boost from Sony Michel (21 carries for 133 yards and a touchdown) and Julian Edelman (four catches, 84 yards and a touchdown).
New England stacked up good yardage between the 20s throughout the first two-plus quarters, but red-zone issues left the game tied at 10 at halftime. In his return to action, Rob Gronkowski (three catches, 56 yards and one touchdown) registered his first touchdown since the opener on a 34-yard scoring play that tied the game at seven.
The Patriots turned on the afterburners midway late in the third and early in the fourth, as Brady found Edelman on a 21-yard touchdown pass in the third, and Michel added a 1-yard plunge early in the fourth to put the game suitably out of reach. The Jets were denied a late touchdown on a nice pass breakup from Jason McCourty.
