LOS ANGELES — All season, the Red Sox have shown tenacity in bouncing back after disappointing losses or performances. So it wasn’t a surprise they did it in Game 4 of the World Series on Saturday — mere hours after a gut-wrenching, 18-inning Game 3 loss gave the Dodgers some momentum.
But how the Red Sox did it … well, that was something different.
After spotting the Dodgers a 4-0 lead in the sixth inning – when manager Alex Cora left emergency starter Eduardo Rodriguez in the game one to four batters too long (take your pick) and gave up a three-run blast to Yasiel Puig — the Red Sox came charging back with nine runs in the final three innings to deal the Dodgers their own devastating defeat, 9-6, as Boston took back control of this series with 3-1 lead.
How the Red Sox did it:
- Three runs in the seventh on Mitch Moreland’s three-run home run
- One in the eighth on Steve Pearce solo shot
- And five in the ninth — Rafael Devers’ single to score Brock Holt give them the lead, a three-run double by Pearce and RBI single by Xander Bogaerts.

- Alex Cora said in going with Eduardo Rodriguez, the lefty is "a full-go. We'll see where he takes us.'' Cora said both David Price and Chris Sale volunteered to start, but were held back. Cora said Rodriguez was told "to go as hard as he can as long as he can. There's no holding back.''
- Cora said everyone in the bullpen is "rested. The only guy who's not available is Nate. We still have Drew (Pomeranz) from the left side and the righties.
- Eduardo Nunez is dealing with an ankle, but was good enough to be in the starting lineup. "He battled (Friday),'' said Cora of the infielder. "But he's ready to go.''
- Cora said he noted Rafael Devers "went back to chasing pitches, swinging harder and harder as the game went along,'' which is why Nunez pinch-hit for him.
- Mookie Betts "isn't attacking pitches in the zone,'' according to Cora. He was hitless at the top of the batting order.
- Xander Bogaerts was also guilty of chasing some pitches. "His strength is pitches up in the zone,'' said Cora. He also dealt with some cramping during the game.
