BSJ Daily Briefing 10.25.18: Red Sox take 2-0 lead as pitching continues to dominate; Note to members

Good morning!

A few random thoughts while I wonder the next feat of diamond strength left for David Price to accomplish in his redemption tour de force...

• The Dodgers were in every game to start this series — including their first lead on Wednesday night at 2-1 — but you have the feeling, with the Red Sox up 2-0, is that Boston is just too good, too tough and too sound in what it does.


• Have you ever seen a team that is so tough with two strikes and/or two outs? I mean, the first two Sox went down in the fifth inning with the No. 9 hitter due up. Five more batters came to the plate and they scored three runs to take the lead for good.


• They do that Every. Single. Night.


• And how about the bullpen? The Red Sox recorded 16-straight outs to finish the game. Talk about shutdown.


• I don't know what has gotten into Joe Kelly, but he suddenly looks like the next-great closer with that changeup from hell. And with Craig Kimbrel set to become a free agent ... I'm not saying, I'm just saying...


• Nathan Eovaldi. Swiss Army Knife.


• Give it up for David Price. 2-0 with a 1.50 ERA in his past two starts. The new normal?


• The Dodgers can't buy a hit right now. Dave Roberts' decision to start his FOUR leading home-run hitters on the bench in Boston is not going over well.


• The teams are in for a nearly 50-degree difference as they head to Los Angeles. When I left Fenway, it was 37 degrees. It's supposed to be in the mid-80s all four days in LA.


• Cool story by Chris Price on who players think is the next coach among the players. They picked a player I wouldn't have guessed, but it does make sense.


• Nice gift from the schedule makers. The World Series is off, but Boston fans are treated to the Bruins vs. the Flyers at the Garden, and the Celtics are visiting the Thunder. What a great time to be a Boston sports fan.
