BSJ Weekend Briefing: Bruins surging, Is Alex Cora a baseball Precog?, Chiefs beckon for Patriots taken at BSJ Headquarters (Regular Features)

Good morning!

A few random thoughts while I wonder what the reaction will be from the Fenway crowd if David Price gets off to a rough start on Sunday night...

  • The Bruins looked really good last night against the Oilers but I'm not sure what to make of it. Edmonton isn't very good and it takes a while to get a real feel for a team. I mean, the Bruins last year started 6-7-1 and we all know what happened. And, yes, the 7-0 embarrassment to the Capitals still counts.

  • One thing I haven't understood about this Red Sox season is how Alex Cora has been so confident throughout this season, from the very beginning.

  • Baseball and the players who play it are so unpredictable, but it looks like he's expected the season to play out exactly how it has — the 108 wins, beating the Yankees and facing the Astros. And he's still confident facing his former team, and he knows where the bodies are buried with that team. If I were a Red Sox fan, that would give me a lot of confidence.

  • Maybe he's always like this and in future lean years, it will play much differently. But right now, he looks like some sort of Baseball Precog ... and it's kind of freaking me out.

  • The closer we get to this Patriots-Chiefs game, the better the injury situation for New England. It looks like Eric Berry and Justin Houston won't be able to go for Kansas City. They were already bad on defense. The Patriots' defense will have a tough time stopping the Chiefs, but I have a lot more confidence they'll get a few stops than I do the Chiefs.

  • Oh, and one more good omen for the Patriots: it looks like former guard Jordan Devey, Mr. Tuba Man himself, will have to start for the Chiefs. If Malcom Brown and Danny Shelton can't go off against him ...
