HEADLINES

Make it nine without a win: It’s a point, but it’s not enough as the Revolution desperately needed three Saturday night. And with Montreal beating New York, 3-0, six points separate L’Impact (36) and New England (30) in the race for sixth; Toronto lost to LAFC, 4-2, so the Reds are still at 27. We’re now at nine matches without a win for The Boys In Blue, who now have to go on the road to try and find three in tough places to play: The Bronx, and Banc of California Stadium.

Two second-half goals the story: After getting nothing through the first 45, the Revs opened the scoring in the 58th minute as Scott Caldwell tapped in the rebound on a Kelyn Rowe one-timer, putting New England ahead, 1-0. But the lead lasted only 12 minutes, as Lawrence Olum scored off a corner kick, shaking his mark — Rowe — as Julio Cascante headed it to him as Matt Turner flailed at it. Andrew Farrell tried to clear it off the line, but he was behind the goal line by a yard. Also notable: Brandon Bye faced Olum, but didn’t get in front.

QUOTABLE QUOTES

“I know Teal had a chance to get it on goal; it didn’t happen but as soon as that happened, the three of us made hard runs. He got a great ball across. I just tried to drag a defender; I knew I wasn’t getting to it, but luckily Kelyn’s hard shot popped up to me. But I must say, if we get the lead in games like this down the stretch, we need to keep them. We didn’t do a good enough job of that.”

“To be honest, I thought we were in control. It was defending a set piece. There’s not a lot more to say about it. They didn’t have a lot of chances to score in the game; another goalkeeper mistake, and another mistake on a marking assignment. Simple.”
