Notebook: Michel, Cannon spotted at start of Patriots practice

FOXBOROUGH -- Running back Sony Michel and offensive tackle Marcus Cannon were both spotted at the start of Patriots practice on Monday afternoon.

Michel, who has missed multiple weeks because of a knee issue, was back on the field in full pads with the rest of his teammates. In addition, Cannon — who had struggled a bit while working through an ankle injury that ended his 2017 season — was back out there as well. If both are OK to return for the regular season, it’ll give the Patriots a much-needed depth boost at a pair of positions.

Linebacker Harvey Langi, offensive linemen Luke Bowanko and Isaiah Wynn and tight end Ryan Izzo were not spotted at the start of the workout, held on the practice fields behind Gillette Stadium. In addition, rookie cornerback Duke Dawson scampered to the lower/rehab fields shortly after stretching finished. And three unidentifiable offensive players — wearing Nos. Nos. 19, 27 and 42 — were also spotted at the start of the workout.



6:41 p.m.: We've been able to officially put names to jersey numbers. The team announced this aftermoon they have signed running back Kenneth Farrow, wide receiver K.J. Maye and running back Khalfani Muhammad. Here's a portion about each player, via a press release issued by the team.

Farrow, 25, originally entered the NFL as a rookie free agent with San Diego out of Houston in 2016. The 5-foot-9, 219-pounder played in 13 games with two starts as a rookie and totaled 60 rushing attempts for 192 yards and 13 receptions for 70 yards. He sat out the 2017 season on injured reserve and was released by San Diego on April 13, 2018.

Maye, 24, was last on an NFL team with New England during training camp in 2017. He was released prior to the start of the regular season. The 5-foot-8, 191-pounder originally signed with the N.Y. Giants as a rookie free agent out of Minnesota on May 6, 2016. He was released by the Giants at the end of training camp and joined the Tennessee Titans practice squad on Dec. 28, 2016. He was released by Tennessee on May 19, 2017.

Muhammad, 23, originally entered the NFL as a seventh-round draft pick (241st overall) by Tennessee out of California in the 2017 NFL Draft. The 5-foot-7, 174-pounder spent the majority of his rookie season on the Titans practice squad. He has not appeared in an NFL game and was released on April 30, 2018.
