Good morning!
A few random thoughts when I contemplate how exactly the Boston sports scene could be any busier than it is right now, especially Saturday, when you couldn't ask for a better couch day...
- After thinking about it a bit more after the first round last night, it feels like the Patriots didn't get exactly what they wanted in each spot, and ended up taking two guys they were hoping to come away with, regardless of where they were drafted.
- Despite him deflecting the questions last night, I do think the Patriots wanted to pick Rashaan Evans at No. 23 but were jumped by Jon Robinson, Mike Vrabel, and the Titans for the standout Alabama linebacker.
- Sometimes that's the way it goes in the draft, and Isaiah Wynn is one hell of a consolation prize. The guy is just a good football player and can play just about anywhere on the line.
- At 31, I think the Patriots were hoping someone would trade up for Lamar Jackson. When they couldn't make a deal, they walked away with a Dion Lewis clone in Sony Michel. Actually, he might be better because he's a little bit better between the tackles and as a blocker.
- If you were going to have a big problem with a Patriots pick, it would be Michel. Not only is there a reported medical concern, but running back is a position you can get all over the draft. I mean, the two best rookie RBs last year — Alvin Kamara and Kareem Hunt — went in the third round. But, the Patriots obviously had their reasons for picking Michel. We'll see how it goes.
- BTW, if you haven't read Mike Loyko's draft coverage for BSJ, you're missing out because he knocked it out of the park on both Wynn and Michel.
- B-Robb hit the nail on the head with where the Celtics are after Game 6 and heading into Game 7: how are they going to regroup offensively against the Bucks' long lineup? Of course, I think just playing at home will give Boston a huge boost.
- We're all going to miss Joe Kelly? I guess we're going to miss Joe Kelly.
- I don't know if there's been a better sequence of words written at BSJ than these from the esteemed keyboard of Ian Moran: "They need to go to Tampa and play like Massholes. Yeah, Massholes. You know who you are and they need to play like you." Gold, Jerry. Gold!
With that, catch up on BSJ coverage...
