RED SOX

It appears as though the Red Sox haven't shut the door completely on bringing back Eduardo Nunez. But there are other suitors in Boston's division for the veteran infielder.

Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic noted on Twitter Tuesday morning that the Red Sox, Yankees, and Rays have all either "shown interest'' or "checked in" on Nunez.

The Yankees are in the market for affordable, experienced infield help to fill vacancies at second and third base. And the Red Sox could use a trustworthy fill-in at second while Dustin Pedroia recovers from off-season knee surgery.

Nunez could be a big help in Boston. After Pedroia returns, Nunez could play second twice a week to give him additional rest, while also occasionally filling in at short and third.

It's likely Nunez could be had for a deal similar to the one signed by Todd Frazier and the Mets Monday (two years, $17 million). That sure seems like an affordable insurance policy for the Sox.

TAKE I MAY REGRET IN A MONTH:

Cheers to Jim Thome, recently elected to the Hall of Fame. Thome has let the Hall know that he wishes to have his plaque bear the "block C'' logo on his Indians cap, and not Chief Wahoo.

Last week, the Indians announced that they're removing the Chief Wahoo logo from their caps and uniforms beginning in 2019, but strangely, will continue to sell merchandise with Chief Wahoo on it this season.

Players have some input into the plaque and Thome's wishes should be honored.

"I just think it's the right thing to do,'' said Thome of his request.

Couldn't agree more.
