FOXBOROUGH — There aren’t many backs who compare to Dion Lewis.
Not a lot of between-the-tackles backs are undersized. Not many of the more traditional backs can match his elusiveness. And not many are capable of having career years at the age of 27.
But here we are with the 5-foot-8, 195-pounder, who has become the closest thing the Patriots have to a lead back in 2017. Through 13 games, he’s already hit career highs in terms of carries (117), rushing yards (607) and rushing touchdowns (three) in a season. His 5.2 yards-per-carry average is tops on the team among backs. He’s also seventh on the team in receiving with 20 catches for 137 yards. And since he arrived in 2015, the Patriots are 27-3 with him in the lineup, including 10-3 this year.
