At the start of his press conference on Saturday, Tom Brady issued an apology to offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels for his sideline outburst early in last Sunday’s win over the Bills.

“One thing I do want to say, first, is I want to apologize to Josh for last week in Buffalo,” Brady said. “I know our coaches work really hard. They're responsible for putting us in a great position to succeed, so I just wanted to get that off my chest.”

Asked if that was just the emotion of the moment, Brady went a little deeper.

“Yeah,” he replied. “But a lot of people see it and they think the nature of our relationship would be something like that, but it's really the exact opposite of that. So I've been feeling bad all week and I haven’t had a chance to say it. He knows how much I love him.”

That being said, Brady acknowledged Saturday — as he has done on many previous occasions — that you need a bit of an edge to play winning football.

“I think you have to play the game with energy, and emotion and enthusiasm,” he said. “It’s just directed in a positive way towards winning and towards what we're trying to accomplish as a team. I have so much trust in the players and so much trust in our coaches and what we're all trying to accomplish. We all want the same thing. To go about that in the right way is what matters the most. We're going to have to have a lot of enthusiasm.”

Brady has barked at assistant coaches and teammates in the past, and so it should come as no surprise that when he spoke on a conference call with the media earlier in the week, it sounded like McDaniels was taking the whole thing in stride.

“It's a very competitive game, and emotional game, and things like that can happen,” he said when asked about Brady's fireworks. “Being in the game a long time, and understanding that Tommy's a very emotional person and emotional player. It's part of what makes him great. You understand that those things happen and it's never personal. You move on quickly from it and we did and we have.

“I love Tom and all those things he stands for and all the things he does for our team. That's just a situation where you understand it and move on quickly from it and you focus on your job.”
