BSJ Game Report: Celtics 111, Bucks 100 -- The offense keeps rolling

Everything you need to know about the Celtics’ 111-100 win over the Bucks in quickie form.

HEADLINES

Kyrie Irving closes the door: The All-Star point guard started off slow, but really picked up the pace in the second half, scoring 19 of his team-high 32 points after intermission, including a pair of game-clinching shots in the final two minutes to close the door on a Bucks team that trailed from virtually start to finish.

A quality win: The new-look Bucks came to the Garden with an 8-3 record since acquiring Eric Bledsoe from the Phoenix Suns. The C’s looked for revenge for one of their only two home defeats of the year, and made sure they got it by jumping all over the visitors with a 62-point half. The quick start kept Milwaukee on their heels all night, despite a game-high 40 points from Giannis Antetokounmpo.

TURNING POINT

Al Horford finished with a dunk on three consecutive possessions midway through the fourth quarter (including on a pair of alley-oop feeds from Marcus Smart) in a 90-second span. The sequence helped pushed the Celtics lead up to 12 with five minutes remaining, which was enough of a cushion to close out the game.    




TWO UP


Jayson Tatum:
The 19-year-old rookie could not miss in the first quarter, drilling all four of his shots from downtown to score 14 of Boston’s 34 points in the frame. He continues to improve on his NBA-best 3-point shooting percentage, inching above the 50 percent mark to 51.1 percent with the hot shooting night.




Al Horford:  
Whether it was his passing or scoring, Horford was yet again the focal point of the C’s offense for much of the night. He was flirted with a triple-double (20 points, 9 rebounds, 8 assists), which included 12 points in the fourth quarter on 5-of-5 shooting. The veteran has dished out six or more assists in six of his last eight games.




TWO DOWN


Marcus Morris:
The master of the midrange didn’t have his shot falling on the night. He went 1-of-6 from the field for a season-low three points.


Second-half defense:
The Celtics really didn’t have an answer for Antetokounmpo or the Bucks defense for the better part of the second half. The Greek Freak went for 22 points of his 40 points after intermission, while the Bucks also benefitted from a host of open looks the C’s gave up at the arc.

The Celtics offense is close to unstoppable when it’s clicking:  
The Celtics offense has been rounding into form but there were multiple sequences in this game where it made a Bucks defense (which had been top-10 since the Bledsoe trade) look like a complete disaster. With more elite ball movement and the 3-point shot starting to fall for everyone on the roster, opposing defenses can’t cover everything and it’s leading to some beautiful basketball.
