THIRD QUARTER UPDATES

  • Irving with 24 points, 6 assists after three quarter, including eight points in the first three minutes of the frame to help push C's lead to double digits early. He's been terrific tonight.

  • Jaylen Brown continues to shake off a couple of down offensive games with some strong takes to he rim. He's been rewarded at the free throw line (5-of-5) with that aggression, helping him climb up to 18 points through three quarters.

  • Another night, another time we are seeing consistent production from Daniel Theis in the trenches. 6 points and 5 rebounds in just nine minutes already.

  • Semi Ojeleye still can't buy a bucket. After going 0-of-3 from down, he's now 1-of-10 on the season.

  • Aron Baynes has been glued to the bench a lot when Pau Gasol is resting. Will be curious to see if he gets another chances even with Spurs saying small. C's defense is so much better with him on the floor.

SECOND QUARTER UPDATES

  • Some very ugly minutes by the bench + Tatum unit to start the second quarter as Spurs jumped out to an 11-1 run with it on the floor. Just no offensive rhythm without Tatum getting the ball and Rozier missing open looks

  • Speaking of Rozier, he started this game 1-of-7 from the field. It's been a few ugly games of offense from him after starting the season very hot.

  • Kyrie Irving has put on a show in the first half with his passing and scoring. He setup three alley oops to Horford, Theis and Nader with his drives and got whenever he want offensively (6-of-9 shooting) on most possessions.

  • Some surprise minutes for Abdel Nader later in the quarter to help deal with the Spurs' length.

  • Irving put on a show in the final few minutes of half to help C's regain control of the game, capping his best half as a Celtic. 16 points on 7-of-10 FG, 5 assists, 2 steals and a block.

FIRST QUARTER UPDATES

  • Impressive offense right out of the gate for Kyrie Irving and Jaylen Brown, who combined to score 13 of Boston's first 15 points. Irving had his jumper going while Brown was attacking well off the jump and in transition.

  • LaMarcus Aldridge looks like a different player this season. Much more comfortable and effective in the Spurs offense.

  • This Spurs team is pretty ordinary on a whole with Tony Parker, Kawhi Leonard and Manu Ginoboli out. They don't have anyone who really scares you outside of Aldridge.

  • Celtics are on fire in first eight minutes, shooting a scorching 66 percent from the field on 10-of-15 shooting. Horford, Irving and Brown all have at least six points in the first quarter.

  • Offensive struggles continue for Semi Ojeleye, who missed a pair of wide open 3s in that quarter. He's now 1-of-9 from the field in his brief NBA career, but continues to do solid work on the defensive end.

PREGAME NOTES WITH UPDATES TO FOLLOW

  • Marcus Morris was assigned to the G-League on Monday by the Celtics so he could get some practice in during training camp for the Maine Red Claws. The G-League squad scrimmaged in Waltham so Morris did not even need to go to Maine to get some practice time in. He's expected to make his season debut for the Celtics later this week as he rehabs from a sore knee.

  • The Celtics have won four straight games in the regular season for the first time since last February. They now stand just 1/2 game outside of the top spot in the East, behind the Detroit Pistons.

  • LaMarcus Aldridge has scored at least 20 points in each of his first six games to start the 2017-18 season.

  • The Spurs have lost two straight games on the road to the Magic and Pacers after an 4-0 start to the season. They will be coming off a back-to-back in Indiana on Monday night. San Antonio only lost three consecutive games one time during last year's regular season.
