The Patriots announced Saturday cornerback Stephon Gilmore (concussion, running back Rex Burkhead (ribs) and linebacker Harvey Langi (back) have all been downgraded to out for Sunday’s game against the Jets.
Burkhead has been bothered by a rib issue since last month, while Langi’s status was undoubtedly impacted by his Friday night car accident. The puzzler here is Gilmore, who was not on the injury report all week, but was announced by the team as suffering from a concussion on Saturday afternoon.
BSJ analysis
The trio joins cornerback Eric Rowe (groin), who was ruled out on Friday. With Rowe and Gilmore on the sidelines, expect more playing time for youngster Jonathan Jones, as well as special teamer Johnson Bademosi. In addition, it’s important to remember that veteran safety Devin McCourty has a background as a corner, which means his cover skills will almost certainly come into play on Sunday.
