BSJ Daily Briefing 09.30.17: On to Game 161 taken at BSJ Headquarters (Regular Features)

(Bob DeChiara/USA TODAY Sports)

Leave it to the Red Sox, boy.

Faced with seven games to acquire the necessary three games to win the AL East, the Red Sox continue to stumble and their magic number remains at one. Will they back in again like last year, or will they go out today and take the division title? We'll have to watch and find out.

If the Red Sox don't clinch today either through a victory or Yankees loss, then they get into a pickle with Sunday's season finale: do you throw Chris Sale and go for it, or do you move up, say, Rick Porcello and save Sale for a possible playoff/wild-card game? I know I would pitch Sale, but you never know with John Farrell.

The fact remains, I can't believe we're debating stuff like this. The Sox should be priming themselves for the postseason.
