BSJ Daily Briefing 09.29.17: Launching pad taken at BSJ Headquarters (Regular Features)

(Bob DeChiara/USA TODAY Sports)

Not a great night around here, although it's not major panic time yet.

The Bruins spent their penultimate preseason game, when their lineup was as close as it's going to get to the regular-season crew, getting spanked by the Flyers, 5-1, after taking four first-period penalties. That's never a good way to start. It wasn't all terrible: they did have two goals disallowed.

And suddenly, with the start of the postseason now less than a week away, Fenway Park has turned into a launching pad as Sox starters have bombed out of late. Last four starts by Red Sox pitchers: 35 earned runs. Yikes. The latest beating, a 12-2 defeat, came against their Division Series opponent, the Houston Astros. Silver lining: Yankees lost so the Magic Number is now one.

Oh, and the Patriots' defense is getting ripped up and down on talk radio all week. Good times.
