Bruins meet roster requirements for NHL preseason games taken at Warrior Ice Arena (Bruins)

Fans north of the border are wondering why Bruins forward Patrice Bergeron, who is a Quebec native, is not playing in the first preseason game against the Montreal Canadiens at Videotron Centre on Monday in Quebec.



Boston’s roster is young but it does meet the requirements for a preseason game.

Here are the rules:


  • Eight veterans required per preseason game.

  • 30 games played previous years (forwards and defensemen).

  • Goalie who dressed 50 or more games played total in his career, or NHL, or played 30 games or more the previous season.

  • Any player who has played 100 or more NHL games.

  • First-round draft choice from last season.
