FOXBOROUGH — The Patriots announced they have re-signed Brandon Bolden, and they placed Shea McClellin on injured reserve.

McClellin could return later in the season. The team can bring back up to two players from injured reserve. And they do not need to designate which players could return, like in previous years.

Bolden's return gives the Patriots five running backs on the active roster. Of course, Bolden in a special teams standout.

The Patriots also signed WR Demarcus Ayers and DE Angelo Blackson to the practice squad, and released DT Darius Kilgo.

Ayers, 23, was drafted by the Steelers in the seventh round of the 2016 draft out of Houston. Ayers (5-11, 190 pounds) played in four games (one start) and caught nine passes for 80 yards and one touchdown.

Blackson, 24, was a fourth-round pick of the Titans in 2015. The 6-4, 318-pounder played 29 games with 33 tackles and 2.5 sacks.

Additionally, the Patriots waived DT Woodrow Hamilton and DT Corey Vereen from injured reserve with injury settlements.
