FOXBOROUGH — Bill Belichick was as direct as he’s ever been when he was asked about the Jacoby Brissett trade Sunday morning.
When he was asked why the Patriots decided to part ways with the third-string quarterback, he answered flatly.
“To acquire (Phillip) Dorsett,” he replied.
“If you want to get something,” Belichick said, “you have to give up something. That’s what trades are.”
Belichick acknowledged they took a look at Dorsett when he was coming out of college — he was the 29th overall pick in 2015 — but didn’t go in-depth on the wide receiver. (At least no more than the scouting report offered by his former high school teammate James White.)
“He’s a pretty talented player,” Belichick said of Dorsett. “He’s a first-round draft pick. We’ll see. We’ll start working with him (Sunday) and see how it goes.”
The flip side of the trade saw the departure of Jacoby Brissett, and the breakup of "The Wolfpack," the nickname the New England quarterbacks had given themselves after the group of friends in “The Hangover.” In an Instagram post, Brissett thanked the Patriots for his opportunity.
“The countless memories will live forever,” wrote Brissett. “To that locker and the friends/relationships that I've gain in such a short amount of time thank you guys for accepting me. Excited for this new journey in Indy and can't wait to get started.”
Brady responded to the post with a #wolfpack hashtag.
