Live coverage: Day 3 of camp taken at Gillette Stadium (Patriots)

(Bob DeChiara/USA TODAY Sports)

FOXBOROUGH — The pads are on, so real football is back today at Gillette.

Note: Due to media policies our in-practice observations are limited, but we’ll have a thorough breakdown following the session.

  • An autumnal day, as it's overcast and cool.

  • Celtics coach Brad Stevens is on the field.

  • WRs Danny Amendola and Malcolm Mitchell have returned.

  • LB Rob Ninkovich is still out. Dont'a Hightower and Alan Branch are still not participating.

  • WR Cody Hollister (injured Friday) is not on the field.

  • Amendola and Mitchell are working on the lower "rehab" field. Indicates they won't take part in practice.

  • First hitting drill of camp was TEs sealing the edge against DEs. Nothing dominating but Rob Gronkowski, Matt Lengel and James O'Shaughnessy did a nice job. Trey Flowers was toughest to block.

  • In a run-blocking drill, DT Lawrence Guy looked really good, and Darius Kilgo and Josh Augusta showed well for the defensive line. Shaq Mason showed improved technique on the run. And Kony Ealy was admonished by coaches for doing the wrong thing on the final snap.

  • Not sure what this means, but on the first snap of two-straight competitive blocking drills, Gronkowski ended up on the ground. Not optimal.

  • Ted Karras really looks the part at backup center.

  • First round of OL vs. DL one-on-ones have concluded (my favorite part of camp). Quickie takes: defense held slight edge 13-11-6. Standouts were Kilgo, Cole Croston and Lawrence Guy. Cam Fleming did not show well.

  • S Duron Harmon just landed awkwardly in the end zone and clutched his right knee. He's walking off slowly under his own power.

  • RB Mike Gillislee had a really nice, physical touchdown in goal line where he absorbed a big blow but still got in. His teammates were pumped up.

  • DC Matt Patricia has not been happy with the defense.

  • Ryan Allen appears to be having a tough punting day, but he could be working on something specific.
