The Sox lone run came in the fifth inning, with Danny Jansen hitting a solo homer to left field, tying the game at one run a piece. The team had four hits total tonight, with three of them being for extra bases, being Jansen's home run, and doubles from Tyler O'Neill and Connor Wong. Boston struck out 14 total times tonight, with four players striking out twice (Jarren Duran, Romy Gonzalez, Tyler O'Neill, Ceddanne Rafaela), and Rafael Devers struck out three times, and went 0-4 in the game.
Cooper Criswell got the start, and he got the job done against the Yankees strong lineup. He pitched five and a third innings, giving up just one run on four hits, while walking three and striking out four. The lone run he allowed was a lead off home run from Gleyber Torres. Cam Booser would come in after him, and get only one out, allowing a hit and two walks. Zack Kelly then bailed Booser out, getting out of the bases loaded jam in the sixth. Justin Slaten came into the game in the seventh, pitching the full inning, and he let up a hit and struck out one Yankee. Chris Martin made an appearance in the eighth inning, striking out two. Kenley Jansen then came in in the ninth, forcing the game into extras. Josh Winckowski would end up with the loss, giving up a lead off single to Juan Soto, which scored the ghost runner Torres.
My Player of the Game: Danny Jansen - Jansen went 1-2 with a walk, and got Boston their only run of the game. He also struck out just once.
Tomorrow's game will start at 7:05 p.m., with the probable pitchers being Tanner Houck (8-10, 3.24 ERA) and Clarke Schmidt (5-3, 2.34 ERA)
