Final: Red Sox 9, Yankees 3 - Red Sox break franchise record for steals in a game in series win against the Yankees

Trevor's Game Notes:

Clutch pitching: Kutter Crawford started the game for the Red Sox, striking out 7 batters and allowing 3 runs in 6 innings. After giving up a monster solo home run to Aaron Judge in the 1st inning, Crawford had multiple 1-2-3 innings getting the Yankees lineup to swing and miss at his pitches. His 2nd earned run was also via the long ball, as Jose Trevino hit a solo home run in the 6th inning. His 3rd earned run came in the same inning as he gave up a passed ball which Anthony Volpe scored on from 3rd. In the 7th inning, Brennan Bernardino got the Red Sox in a jam, loading the bases on 2 hits and an error at 1st. Alex Cora would take out Bernardino for Zach Kelly, who got out of inning striking out 2 Yankee batters and keeping the game 4-3 at the time. The Red Sox bullpen did not allow a run this game. 

Hits and stolen bases: The Red Sox lineup came to play tonight. Every player in the lineup besides Yoshida and Dalbec (Yoshida was subbed out for Dalbec midway through the game) recorded a hit in the game. Multiple players (Duran, Hamilton, Refsnyder, Wong, and Rafaela) all recorded multiple hits amounting to 14 hits in total for Boston. Colton Wong, Ceddanne Rafaelaa, and Rafael Devers were the biggest standouts, as they knocked in a combined 7 runs amongst the 3 players. Not only did the Red Sox hit, but they also were able to steal bases to the point where they broke a franchise record. Boston stole 9 bases against New York, setting a franchise record for the most amount of bases stolen in a game. 

The Red Sox defeated the best team in both the American League and National League in back-to-back series. Such an impressive feat for this club. Tomorrow, they start their series against the Blue Jays in Toronto.

WHAT'S UP

The Red Sox defeated the Yankees 8-4 Saturday. Rafael Devers hit a two-run double, Tyler O’Neill and rookie Jamie Westbrook had RBI doubles and the Boston Red Sox ended Carlos Rodón's seven-start winning streak.

Boston improved to 33-9 wearing their City Connect uniforms with bright yellow jerseys and powder blue lettering, including 18-5 in the past two years.

Boston announced an attendance of 36,673 for this one. It marked just the second sellout of the season at Fenway Park and the first since Opening Day against the Baltimore Orioles on April 9.

Chris Martin pitched a scoreless inning in a rehab outing for Triple-A Worcester on Sunday. He tossed the seventh inning in the WooSox’ 12-6 win over Buffalo. Martin likely will be activated from the 15-day injured list (anxiety) Tuesday when the Red Sox play the second game of a three-game series in Toronto. Boston placed him on the IL June 5 (retroactive to June 2).

The Red Sox might have difficulty producing runs. Boston hitters have not hit well historically against Marcus Stroman. Hitters on the active roster are just 6-for-42 (.143 batting average) with two extra-base hits (two doubles), four walks and nine strikeouts against Stroman.
