Final: Orioles 12, Red Sox 8
The Red Sox' offense continued to mash as the team returned from its brief road trip.
The bullpen, on the other hand, continued to stumble.
Leading 8-2 in the seventh inning, the Red Sox allowed the Baltimore Orioles to score 10 unanswered runs over the final three innings as the Red Sox handed the O's a 12-8 decision.
Garrett Whitlock had pitched a career high six innings and limited the O's to just two runs. But the parade of relievers that followed were all victimized, led by Matt Strahm, who was knocked around for four runs on five hits in just one-third of an inning. Jake Diekman (three runs), John Schreiber (two runs) and Hirokazu Sawamura (one run) were no better.
The blown save, earned by Strahm, was the 11th of the season for the Sox, who had jumped out to a 6-0 after two innings on a homer from Xander Bogaerts and a two-run double from Alex Verdugo.
