FINAL: Yankees 8, Red Sox 5 - Home run ball hurts Boston as New York splits doubleheader
The Red Sox fell to the Yankees, 8-5, in the nightcap of Thursday's doubleheader after winning 5-0 in the day game in the wake of Chaim Bloom's firing. Boston opened up a 2-0 lead in the first inning, but Brennan Bernardino's struggles in the top of the second allowed a five-run outburst from New York, headlined by an Aaron Judge grand slam. Rafael Devers homered again versus the Yankees before the Sox eventually fought back to tie it up, 5-5, but DJ LeMahieu hit a go-ahead RBI double in the eighth inning before Oswaldo Peraza's two-run homer in the ninth added insurance for the 8-5 final.

WHAT'S UP
The Red Sox took Game 1 of today's doubleheader, 5-0, after the firing of Chaim Bloom earlier in the day.
Ceddanne Rafaela homered and Trevor Story had a three-run homer, while Tanner Houck went six scoreless innings strong.
Schmidt was supposed to get the start on Monday and Wednesday before both games were rained out.
He threw 6.1 innings against the Tigers last time out, giving up three runs and five hits with six strikeouts. That start came after a winless August, including a no-decision against the Red Sox on Aug. 20 that saw him give up two runs (earned) on four hits (one HR) with eight K's and two walks in 5.2 innings of a 6-5 loss. He will make his eighth appearance and fourth start against Boston in his career. He's previously 0-1 with a 4.03 ERA.
Robertson will make his fifth appearance and first start for Boston since being acquired from the Dodgers. He threw one inning in Tuesday's 4-1 loss to the Yankees, giving up one hit and one walk while striking out three.
Thursday's nightcap marks the end of the homestand as the Sox hit the road for six games between Toronto and Texas.
