Final: Rangers 6, Red Sox 1 - Red Sox fall under .500, Giolito allows 6 runs in less than 4 innings
The Red Sox lose their first game of their series against the Texas Rangers 6-1 falling back to under .500.
In his first start at Fenway Park for the Red Sox, Lucas Giolito had a rough outing in the rainy conditions. Boston's starter allowed six runs and 10 hits in 3.2 innings. Five of those runs came in the 4th inning which ended up being Giolito's final inning of the game.
Even with Giolito's outing, the Red Sox couldn't get anything done at the plate, only scoring one run in the 6th inning from Kristian Campbell who drove home Alex Bregman with an RBI single.
Boston combined for six hits in this game, yet again getting minimal production out of the top of the order. Nathan Eovaldi got the start for the Rangers, and the former Red Sox starter pitched 6.0 innings striking out seven batters in the process.
Overall, another lackluster game shown from both sides of the field. On the bright side, Sean Newcomb pitched four scoreless innings out of the bullpen helping mitigate the damage from Giolito's start.
The Red Sox continue their series tomorrow at 6:45 p.m. with Tanner Houck on the mound.
