Final: Royals 9, Red Sox 0

Four Royals got on base on a pair of hits and walks off right-hander Franklin German, who made his MLB debut in an ugly sixth inning that put the Red Sox, already trailing 4-0, down 8-0 in an eventual 9-0 loss. Their pitching allowed 15 hits, including eight from starter Rich Hill, along with German's pair of walks as Boston's offense went quiet with only five of its own as nine straight Sox hitters went down in order between the sixth and eighth innings. 

Brady Singer kept the Red Sox off-balance early and often with his sinker, finishing six shutout innings with five hits allowed and five strikeouts. Boston's bottom three hitters loaded the bases in the third inning, the team's best chance at scoring runs all afternoon, before Tommy Pham, Rafael Devers and J.D. Martínez went down in order to mark a 1-12 showing for the top of the order. 

Hill escaped baserunners in the first two innings, but went behind 2-0 on a pair of third inning RBI singles from MJ Melendez and Salvador Perez as Kansas City settled in against his 68-70 mile per hour off speed pitches. He nearly escaped the fifth inning after allowing another run, but Vinnie Pasquantino hit a two-out fly ball to Alex Verdugo in right field that he dropped, allowing Bobby Witt Jr. to extend the lead to 4-0.

Royals go up 2-0 on a pair of RBI singles from MJ Melendez and Salvador Perez. Good baseball by Melendez hitting over the right side shift to score Nate Eaton, who had stolen 2nd after an infield single to Yu Chang. Perez took a 66 mile per hour curve to center and scored Melendez.

Top 5 

More fielding trouble for the Red Sox after the pair of dropped balls in the outfield against the Yankees on Wednesday. Alex Verdugo dropped the potential third out off the bat of Vinnie Pasquantino. Bobby Witt Jr. scored after his single drove in MJ Melendez, who benefited from a second steal leading to his second run scored today. Hill was relieved by Ryan Brasier after 4.2 innings, eight hits, four strikeouts and three earned runs. Hill's three pitches to cap the first three at bats all came in under 70 miles per hour. Royals lead 4-0 after Brasier struck out Michael Taylor on three pitches. 

Bottom 6 

Franklin German walked Edward Olivares on five pitches, allowed a single to Michael Massey and walked Hunter Dozier through the first three at bats of his MLB debut. He didn't record an out, mixing a 98-99 mile per hour fastball with inaccurate off-speed pitches, allowing an RBI single to Nate Eaton before getting pulled after 12 strikes and 11 balls. Right-hander Eduard Bazardo relieved German and allowed Massey to score on a fielder's choice, then gave up RBI singles to Witt Jr. and Pasquantino before escaping the inning with the Royals up 8-0.

Bottom 8 

Melendez hit a double off the monster off right-hander Tyler Danish and Pasquantino drove him in with a two-out single to right to make it 9-0 Royals.
