Final: Red Sox 2, Royals 1

It was far from artistic, but the Red Sox managed a taut 2-1 victory over the Kansas City Royals, snapping a two-game losing streak.

The Sox were held to just two hits over the first seven innings. But in the eighth, Royals relievers issued four walks -- the last of which, to Alex Verdugo, forced in the tying run. Then, with the bases still loaded, J.D. Martinez slapped a single to left, scoring the go-ahead run.

The Royals had been limited to a single run by starter Michael Wacha, who was brilliant over seven innings.

Garrett Whitlock and Matt Strahm helped close it out for the Sox.
