Final: Pirates 4, Red Sox 1 - Sox held to just four hits

This time, the pitching was better but there wasn't enough offense.

After averaging more than eight runs per game before Tuesday, the Red Sox were limited to a single run -- in the first inning -- and lost their second straight to the Pittsburgh Pirates, 4-1.

Starter Nick Pivetta gave the Sox five solid innings and allowed three runs, just one of them earned. A two-run homer Ji-Hwan Bae -- following a passed ball by Reese McGuire on a third strike -- gave the Pirates all the offense they would need. A solo homer from Bryan Reynolds, his third of the series, followed in the third.

The Sox had just four hits all night, with their only run scoring on a groundout by Masataka Yoshida.
