Final: Pirates 10, Red Sox 3 - May allows six earned runs in ugly start
The Red Sox lose their second game in a row to the Pittsburgh Pirates 10-3.
Dustin May had an ugly start on the mound against one of the worst offenses in MLB, allowing six earned runs, eight hits and four walks in 5.1 innings.
To start the game, May loaded the bases with no outs, and the Pirates scored the first run of the game with an RBI from Tommy Pham
May did pitch two scoreless innings between the second and fourth innings, which helped the Red Sox take the lead. In the third inning, Carlos Narváez hit a solo home run to left field to tie the game.

And in the fourth inning, Boston scored another run with a Romy Gonzalez RBI. Trevor Story started the inning with a leadoff walk, and he made it to third stealing a base in the process.

However, Boston's lead was short-lived. In the fifth inning, May again loaded the bases with no outs, and Bryan Reynolds gave Pittsburgh's lead back with a two-run RBI single.
Pham then scored another run for the Pirates to make it 4-2. This was Pittsburgh's third run of the inning, and May didn't even get an out.
Despite his struggles, Alex Cora pitched May for the sixth inning without warming up an arm in his bullpen. Oneil Cruz started the inning smashing a solo home run to center field, and May's finished his outing after giving up a double and walk.

Brennan Bernardino came in to clean up May's mess, but he also struggled allowing three more runs, turning the score 9-2.
Gonzalez drove in another RBI in the bottom half of the sixth, but Boston's offense went relatively quiet the rest of the game. Pittsburgh added another run in the ninth against Jordan Hicks, and they clinched a series win against Boston.
This was another game where May struggled on the mound. It was clear May was struggling before the fifth inning, and it's a questionable decision from Cora to keep his starter in the game and not put in a bullpen arm earlier.
Boston will wrap up their series against the Pirates tomorrow at 1:35 p.m. with Lucas Giolito on the mound.
