In what may represent the low point of the season -- to date, at least -- the Red Sox dropped their second straight to the last-place Baltimore Orioles, 9-1, finishing off a disastrous 3-7 road trip that saw them lose three straight series to teams within the division.

The Red Sox actually led briefly, with a run in the fifth. But the Orioles rallied and put up the next nine runs -- four prior to a rain delay that lasted more than two hours and five more after.

J.D. Martinez added a grand slam in the ninth inning to make the final score sound far more respectable than it actually was.

It was bad enough that catcher Kevin Plawecki pitched the eighth, and worse, may have been the most effective pitcher of the day for the Sox, turning in a scoreless inning.
