The Red Sox lose to the Baltimore Orioles 6-3 in a frustrating game at the plate.

Facing Orioles starter Trevor Rogers, the Red Sox only scored one run through seven innings. In those seven innings on the mound, Rogers limited the Red Sox to just four hits and struck out seven batters.

On the pitching side for the Red Sox, Dustin May had another good start for Boston, pitching six innings and allowing two earned runs. There were innings where May struggled. He allowed eight hits and two walks, but was able to limit the Orioles from doing more damage with runners on base.

After pitching two scoreless innings to start the game, May allowed a solo home run to Gunnar Henderson in the third inning. May then gave up an RBI single to Dylan Beavers in the fourth inning giving Baltimore a 2-0 lead.

In the seventh inning, the Orioles extended their lead to four, scoring two runs against Jovani Moran.

Despite being down two runs the majority of the game, the Red Sox had no answer against Rogers, and Moran's seventh-inning outing made it hard for them to come back into the game. Boston finally got on the board in the seventh inning with a sac fly RBI from Jarren Duran, but they stranded Alex Bregman at third base, failing to get a crucial second run.

After recording no hits in the eighth inning, Jordan Hicks allowed two earned runs in the ninth inning.

Down five runs, the Red Sox cut Baltimore's lead to three with a two-run RBI from Duran. However, Yennier Cano finished off the game securing the victory for Baltimore.

In the games the Red Sox have faced Rogers this season, Baltimore's lefty starter has allowed just one earned run in 13.1 innings. Without having Rob Refnsyder in the lineup, the Red Sox couldn't produce, and it resulted in an ugly night at the plate.

Nathaniel Lowe made his Red Sox debut in the ninth inning. In his lone at-bat, Lowe made it on base with a walk and scored on Duran's RBI double.

Besides May and Lowe's appearances, there weren't many positives that came out of this lackluster loss.

Boston will finish their short series with Baltimore tomorrow at 7:10 p.m. with Walker Buehler on the mound.

WHAT'S UP

The Red Sox start a rare two-game series against the Baltimore Orioles with Dustin May pitching game one.

The Red Sox have signed Nathaniel Lowe to a contract. Lowe was DFA'd by the Washington Nationals and was unclaimed through waivers. Boston signed Lowe to the prorated league minimum. Lowe is active in today's game and will wear #37.

Boston also recalled Nate Eaton from Triple-A Worcester and placed outfielder Rob Refsnyder (left oblique strain) on the 10-day IL. Catcher Ali Sánchez was also DFA'd by the Red Sox. Eaton will bat leadoff for Boston tonight.

Refsnyder was placed on the 10-day IL with a left oblique strain on Monday.“The last few days he hasn’t felt great,” manager Alex Cora said. “So I think it makes sense to put him on the IL, get him back hopefully by next week.”

Wilyer Abreu is expected to not be placed on the IL list after dealing with right left calf tightness in yesterday's game.
