Final: Red Sox 2, Mets 0 - Red Sox bullpen comes up big in shutout win against Mets taken at BSJ Headquarters (Top Red Sox)

The Red Sox win their second consecutive game against the New York Mets with another big performance from Boston's bullpen.

Walker Buehler got the start in today's game coming back from the IL, but Buehler's outing on the mound took an abrupt end.

In the 3rd inning, Buehler argued with a call after Carlos Naravez attempted to throw a runner out going to second base, and home plate umpire Mike Estabrook decided to eject Buehler from the game. Alex Cora came to Buehler's defense and also got ejected.

With Buehler only pitching 2.1 innings, Boston's bullpen had to take on a hefty workload, and they stepped up big.

Brennan Bernardino got it started helping the Red Sox out of the 3rd inning jam, and he pitched another scoreless inning in the 4th.

Garrett Whitlock then took over in the 5th inning and gave the Red Sox another scoreless inning.

In the same 5th inning, the Red Sox got their only two runs of the game as Carlos Narvaez and Rafael Devers both slammed solo home runs to the Green Monster putting the game at 2-0.

With the Red Sox in front, the bullpen continued producing scoreless innings en route to the victory. Justin Wilson, Greg Weissert, and Justin Slaten all made appearances in the later half of the game setting up Aroldis Chapman to get his second save in consecutive games.

And in a 1-2-3 9th inning, the Red Sox picked up their second win in a round and Chapman secured his eight save on the season.

Considering the amount of relievers who pitched in yesterday's win for Boston, going out and pitching 7.2 scoreless innings of relief baseball is incredible. Got to give a ton of credit to all the bullpen arms, especially, Weissert, Wilson, Slaten, and Chapman.

Along with that, Boston's defense in the field has looked great in this series. Nick Sogard made a couple great plays at first base, Narvaez threw out a runner stealing second base, and Boston's middle infield turned multiple double plays. A huge turnaround after last week's rough series against the Tigers.

The Red Sox will finish their series against the Mets tomorrow at 6:45 p.m. Garrett Crochet gets the start on the bump.

WHAT'S UP

Walker Buehler makes his first start coming off the IL as the Red Sox look to win their second game of their series against the New York Mets.

Kristian Campbell gets the start at center field tonight. This Campbell's first game back in the lineup after being benched the past two days. “Sitting on the bench for two days and watching and talking to players and the coaches and have a different perspective of a big league games is always important,” said Alex Cora about Campbell.

It might be a while before Campbell makes his debut at first base for Red Sox. “He’s moving well,” said Cora. “I think he’s felt the work, too. He was a little bit tight on Sunday. So we have to be careful." Cora then confirmed that, with additional work needed, Campbell wouldn’t see game action at first before the end of the current homestand, which concludes Sunday.
