Final: Marlins 5, Red Sox 3 - Marlins complete 9th inning comeback
The Red Sox lose the final game of their series to the Miami Marlins blowing a one-run lead in the ninth inning.
Boston received a great start from Garrett Crochet, who bounced back after taking the loss in his previous start in Houston. Boston's ace pitched seven innings, allowing three hits and one earned run while also striking out eight batters.

After pitching two hitless innings to start the game, Crochet allowed a solo home run to Eric Wagaman, giving the Marlins the first run of the game.

The Red Sox struggled against Jansen Junk early into the game, but they finally put runners on base and took the lead in the fourth inning. After Jarren Duran made it on base with a walk, Wilyer Abreu put Boston in front with a two-run home run that nearly got robbed by right fielder Dane Myers.

After Miami's home run, Crochet got the Red Sox out of two jams in the sixth and seventh innings before his day on the mound was over. In the bottom half of the seventh, Boston added to their lead with an Abraham Toro sac fly that scored Abreu from third.
In the eighth inning, Garrett Whitlock was the first arm to come out of the bullpen for Boston. After putting two runners on base, Whitlock gave up an RBI single to Liam Hicks which cut Boston's lead to just one run.
Arolids Chapman was unavailable to pitch in today's game, so the Red Sox elected to pitch Greg Weissert to get the Red Sox the win. Facing his first batter of the game, Weissert allowed a solo home run to Myers which tied the game for Miami.

Weissert was taken out of the game after allowing another hit, and the Red Sox put in Steven Matz to get them out of the inning. Pitching off against left-handed hitter Jakob Marsee, Matz allowed a two-run home run to right field, giving the Marlins a two-run lead.

With their backs against the wall, the Red Sox left two runners on base, losing the game 5-3.
The miscues that occurred in the ninth inning of yesterday's victory came back to bite the Red Sox today. Because Isaiah Campbell couldn't finish the game, Chapman had to pitch yesterday, thus making him unavailable today.
Crochet pitched another gem today, and it's disappointing that the bullpen couldn't maintain a two-run lead.
The Red Sox will stay in Boston to start a series against the Baltimore Orioles. The first pitch for tomorrow's game will be at 7:10 p.m.
