Final: Cardinals 4, Red Sox 3 - Jansen, Sox blow another late lead after steady day for Sale
The Red Sox took another lead into the ninth, and they blew another lead in the ninth. Kenley Jansen failed to close it out once again in the ninth, surrendering three runs (two earned) as Kiké Hernández's throwing error squandered what would have been a game-winning double play. Solid day on the mound for Chris Sale, who went eight innings deep, striking out nine and allowing just three hits and one run on a Nolan Arenado homer.

The Sox are back at it in the second game of the three-game set, looking to bounce back from Friday's 8-6 loss after Josh Winckowski and Kenley Jansen struggled out of the bullpen after James Paxton had a solid start in his debut.
Pablo Reyes will debut for Boston after the team acquired him from Oakland for cash on Friday.
Sale has gone at least six innings in two straight starts. He's thrown at least five in four straight. He had 10 strikeouts and three earned runs, surrendering seven hits in his last outing, a 5-3 win at Philadelphia on May 5.
Matz is coming off a 5.1-inning outing against Detroit on May 7, in which he surrendered one run on six hits with four strikeouts.
Sale has only gone against St. Louis once, going eight innings and allowing one run on six hits in 2015 with the White Sox. In four starts against Boston, Matz is 1-2 with a 5.75 ERA.
