Final: Blue Jays 9, Red Sox 0 - Boston gets shutout, Blue Jays score 9 runs
In their first game back at Fenway Park since the Rafael Devers trade, the Red Sox lose to the Toronto Blue Jays in embarrassing fashion.
Facing Toronto's starter Jose Berrios, the Red Sox provided nothing at the plate only getting four hits in the game.In a year where the Red Sox have had stretches of being cold on offense, this game was no different.
Brayan Bello was the starter for the Red Sox, and he allowed three earned runs in six innings on the mound. Bello allowed a run in each of his first three innings as he struggled throwing strikes and limiting contact. The Blue Jays were able to consistently record multiple hits in these innings resulting in these early runs.
Luis Guerrero came in for the Red Sox after Bello's start, and he allowed two earned runs only getting one out in his appearance. Brennan Bernardino allowed four earned runs in his appearance following Guerrero, and the Blue Jays had nine runs going into the 9th inning. Nate Eaton, a positional player, had to pitch the 9th inning to save bullpen arms in a game that was so far out of reach.
A truly uninspired loss from the Red Sox who have now lost six games in a row.
Game two of this series will be tomorrow at 4:10 p.m. with Lucas Giolito on the mound.
