The Red Sox lose the first game of their series against the Yankees 9-6.

Another game where Boston's starting pitching severely struggles in the beginning innings of the game.

Walker Buehler had the start in this one, and he allowed 7 earned runs in two innings on the mound.

In the 1st inning, Buehler gave up two home runs to Jazz Chisholm and Anthony Volpe putting the game at 5-0.

Buehler allowed two more runs in the next inning, and for the rest of the game the Red Sox had to play catch up trying to get themselves out of a large deficit.

On the bright side, Marcelo Mayer got his first career home run in the 5th inning.

Romy Gonzalez had a two-run pinch hit single in the 5th, Wilyer Abreu had a sac fly RBI in the 6th, and Rafael Devers also had a two run home run in the 7th. Regardless, it wasn't enough for Boston to come back in this game.

Boston will play the next game of the series tomorrow at 7:35 p.m. with Garrett Crochet on the mound.

WHAT'S UP

The Red Sox face off against the New York Yankees for the first time this season in Yankee Stadium.

Alex Bregman began his running progression on Thursday. “Just going through a progression compared to when he got hurt before with Houston. He feels a lot better,” Cora said. Cora did not say what date Bregman is planning for a return.

Kutter Crawford has no structural damage and returned to Fort Myers where he is expected to throw a bullpen session over the weekend.
