Final: Red Sox 1, Tampa Bay Rays 0 - Hamilton scores only run of game as Red Sox shut out Rays to end series

The Red Sox shut out the Rays to end their series in Tampa Bay 1-0. While the Red Sox didn't provide much offense themselves, their bullpen along with starter Sean Newcomb shut down the offense of the Rays.

David Hamilton scored the only run of the game for Boston with a solo shot ini the 3rd inning.

Newcomb and Boston bullpen pitched an incredible game. Newcomb pitched 4.2 innings and struck out 4 Tampa Bay batters. Greg Weissert, Justin Slaten, and Garrett Whitlock pitched scoreless outings out of the pen as well. 

The Red Sox have the day off tomorrow but will start their second series against the White Sox in Fenway on Friday.

The Red Sox play the rubber match of their series against the Rays in Tampa Bay with Sean Newcomb on the mound.

Red Sox starter Lucas Giolito will make at least one more rehab start after struggling for Double-A Portland on Tuesday. Giolito, who began the season on the IL with a left hamstring strain, lasted just 2-plus innings. He allowed three runs, five hits and three walks while striking out four.

 Romy Gonzalez will play third base and bat fifth for the Red Sox on Wednesday with Alex Bregman on paternity leave.
