After a scoreless first inning from Brennan Bernardino, the Orioles took the lead with Richard Fitts on the mound. In the second inning, Colton Couser delivered a solo shot to tie the game. And in the next inning, Couser came up big again with a two-run RBI single with the bases loaded.
In the fifth inning, Jarren Duran retook the lead for Boston with a three-run home run.

Fitts pitched two clean innings in the fourth and fifth, but was taken out of the game at the beginning of the sixth with an injury to his throwing arm. Steven Matz came in and pitched a clean sixth inning. He then came into the seventh and helped get the Red Sox out of a crucial jam, throwing out a runner heading to third on a bunt play.
Garrett Whitlock then came in for the eighth inning. After giving up a leadoff double, Whitlock struck out three consecutive batters to get the Red Sox out of the inning.
