Final: Mariners 6, Red Sox 2 - Raleigh homers twice before Seattle cracks it open late
Nick Pivetta went 7.1 strong innings for the Red Sox, but it wasn't enough as the Mariners blew the game open against Joe Jacques in the eighth, handing Boston its third straight loss by way of a 6-2 final. Cal Raleigh homered twice for Seattle in the second and seventh innings. Jarren Duran scored almost immediately to start the game, working a walk before stealing second and taking home on a pair of errors. Boston couldn't muster any more run support until it was too late in the ninth, finishing the game with one extra-base hit.

The Red Sox and Mariners have been two of the MLB's hottest teams of late with Boston holding a 15-7 record in July and Seattle at 16-9 in that span. The Sox continue their West Coast swing while the Mariners return from a six-game road trip in Minnesota and Arizona.
Boston is 2.5 games out of a Wild Card spot, and Seattle sits 4.5 back.
Kirby has made three starts against the Sox in his career, including a win in a 10-1 thumping in Boston on May 15. He went 6.2 innings, surrendering eight hits and one run with six strikeouts. The 25-year-old most recently went four innings, giving up seven hits and five runs with nine strikeouts in a 9-7 win over the Twins last Tuesday.
In a rarity of late, Pivetta gets the start for the Red Sox. His las, ironically, came against the Mariners on May 16 in a 9-4 win. He allowed four runs and six hits with six Ks and four walks in 5.1 innings of work. He has a 1.98 ERA since his move to the bullpen. He went five scoreless innings in Tuesday's 7-1 win over Atlanta at Fenway last time out.
