Final: Tigers 6, Red Sox 5 - Tigers walk off against Red Sox in 2nd consecutive game to complete sweep
The Red Sox get walked-off for the second game in a row against the Detroit Tigers 6-5. Yet again, it was another back-and-forth battle between both side that ultimately resulted in a costly late inning run that became the key difference.
Facing off against reigning AL Cy Young pitcher Tarik Skubal, the Red Sox played a completive game at the plate against Detroit's ace.
In the first inning, the Red Sox collected a couple hits which lead to an RBI sac fly from Rob Refsnyder giving Boston an early 1-0 lead.
The Tigers then tied the game in the following inning with an RBI single from Trey Sweeney.
In the 4th inning, the Red Sox took the lead again with a solo shot from Alex Bregman, his second home run in consecutive games.

The Tigers clawed would claw their way back tying the game in the 4th, and a Riley Greene home run gave Detroit their first lead of the game in the 6th inning.

Despite some turbulence in a couple innings, Skubal ended his outing on the mound striking out 11 Red Sox batters in 6.1 innings. However, Boston got the last laugh against Skubal with Ceddanne Rafaela recoding an RBI base hit in what was Skubal's last batter faced in the game.
The Red Sox continued their 7th inning rally after Skubal's exit adding on two more runs which tied the game. Rafael Devers and Jarren Duran provided key back-to-back RBI base hits, and the Red Sox nearly took the lead if it weren't for Wilyer Abreu grounding into a bases loaded double play.
Abreu did make up for it in the 8th inning robbing a home run against Kerry Carpenter, and the Red Sox and Tigers found themselves tied up yet again in the 9th inning.

In the Top of the 9th, Carlos Narvaez lead off the inning with a single, and Alex Cora decided to pinch run David Hamilton for Boston's catcher. Rafaela then recorded another key base hit bringing runners at the corners, but the Red Sox couldn't come away with a lead getting three consecutive outs to end the inning.
Now in the Bottom of the 9th with the Tigers up to bat, pinch hitting Andy Ibanez lead off the inning for Detroit with a walk. Right after the walk, Ibanez attempted to steal second base, and Connor Wong, who just came into the game as a defensive replacement at catcher, missed the throw giving Ibanez easy access to third base.
And just like yesterday, the Tigers walked it off this time off the bat of Justyn-Henry Malloy.

Just another game where the Red Sox can't get it done in crucial moments. Hunter Dobbins kept Boston in the game, and the Red Sox kept up with Skubal despite his high amount of strike outs. Yet again, costly manager moves and inconsistent at-bats when it mattered most is a main reason why the Red Sox got swept.
Next up on the schedule for Boston is the Atlanta Braves. The Red Sox will return to Fenway Park to start a new series on Friday. First pitch will take place at 7:10 p.m.

WHAT'S UP
The Red Sox look to avoid being swept in their road series against the Detroit Tigers after a heartbreaking extra innings walk-off loss yesterday. Boston's bullpen again struggles after Greg Weissert gave up two leads in both the 10th and 11th innings.
Tanner Houck has been placed on the 15-day injured list with a “right flexor pronator strain,” according to the team. Cooper Criswell was recalled in Houck’s place and is active for Wednesday’s series finale.
Josh Winckowski has been placed on Triple-A Worcester‘s 7-day injured list (retroactive to May 13) with right elbow inflammation. The 26-year-old righty last pitched for the WooSox on May 11.
Alex Cora on if the Red Sox plan to promote Roman Anthony or Marcelo Mayer: “No, we need to execute pitches. I think that’s the most important thing, especially in the later part of the game. There’s been a lot of damage done against us."
