Final: Red Sox 7, Blue Jays 6 - Boston holds on for second in a row; Devers has a day

The Red Sox held on despite some struggles for the bullpen to win their second in a row via a 7-6 final over the Blue Jays in Toronto, spoiling the Canada Day festivities. Rafael Devers (3-for-5, 3 RBI, 2 R 1 HR) and Justin Turner (3-for-5, 2 RBI, 3 R, 1 HR) each had massive days at the plate. Kutter Crawford went 5.2 innings, giving up just three hits and two runs. Josh Winckowski struggled in 2.0 innings, allowing four hits, three walks and three runs (two earned). Kenley Jansen came in during the eighth inning for the first time this season, striking out three and giving up one run on three hits. Alex Verdugo cut down Bo Bichette at the plate to end the game and prevent the game-tying run.

The Red Sox snapped their season-high five-game losing streak with their first shutout of the season last night, thanks to James Paxton continued strong form. They're now four games back of Toronto in the Wild Card race.

Crawford has faced the Jays once this season, going 1.1 scoreless innings in May. He has a 4.71 ERA in five starts since joinging the rotation and has a 5.25 ERA in three career appearances against Toronto. Kikuchi struggled against the Red Sox in that may series, which Boston swept, allowing five runs in 4.1 innings. 

The Jays are 7-18 against AL East opponents this season.
