Final: Red Sox 2, Chicago White Sox 7 - Red Sox allow 5 runs in the 9th inning losing series finale aganst White Sox taken at BSJ Headquarters (Red Sox)

Trevor's Game Notes:

Bullpen Disappointment: Tied up going into the 9th inning, the White Sox scored 5 runs to defeat the Red Sox in the final matchup between both squads. Zack Kelly was the pitcher in the 9th inning and didn't keep the game tied up. Kelly allowed multiple hits in the inning as the White Sox ran constantly around the bases, eventually putting the game out of reach. When Boston had their turn up at the plate, they weren't able to generate any offense compared to what Chicago did. Other than the home runs created by Wilyer Abreu and Connor Wong, Boston's offense didn't produce much.

Major League Debut: Richard Fitts started for the Red Sox today, having a great Major League debut. Fitts pitched 5.2 inning only allowing 1 earned run. That earned run could've been prevented if it weren't for a Triston Casas error at 1st. Fitts did a good job creating soft contact also getting help from a couple double play attempts. His breaking balls looked good as well which got him a couple K's in the game.

Boston will start their series against the Orioles tomorrow at 7:10 p.m. in Fenway.

WHAT'S UP

The Red Sox have won back-to-back games following a season-long 5-game losing streak.

The Red Sox won 7-5 over the White Sox on Saturday behind two home runs from slugger Tyler O’Neill.  With the victory, Boston picked up a game in the AL Wild Card standings because the Twins lost a second straight game to the Royals. The Red Sox are now four games behind the Twins who are in control of the third and final Wild Card spot. They are 5 ½ games behind the Royals, who control the second Wild Card spot.

The Red Sox designated Bobby Dalbec for assignment Sunday. If Dalbec clears waivers (meaning no other team claims him), the Red Sox would be able to outright him to Worcester where he would not be on the 40-man roster. He is eligible for minor league free agency this offseason if he still remains off the 40-man roster once free agency begins.

Richard Fitts will make his MLB today as the starter for the Red Sox. Boston acquired Fitts from the Yankees in the Alex Verdugo trade last offseason.

Roman Anthony was ranked as baseball's No. 2 prospect by Baseball America in their final mid-season update to their Top-100 Prospect Rankings.
