Trevor's Notes on the game:

- Errors Kill: The Red Sox made plays around Garrett Whitlock during his time on the mound, but the 6th inning became the back breaker in this one. Pablo Reyes fails to throw runner out at 2nd base loading up the bases, and Devers lets a ground ball go through his glove that resulted in the Angels only two runs of the game.

- Bats need to wake up: Angels' starter Reid Detmers tied his career high in strikeouts. Throughout the game, the Red Sox rarely had any runners on base, having a hard time dealing with the Angels' bullpen.

-Great performance from Justin Slaten: Through 2 innings on the mound (7th and 8th), Slaten struck out 5 Angels, letting no batters get on base. Did a good job making hitters chase with sliders and fastballs out of the zone.

WHAT'S UP

The Red Sox are 6-2 so far on their season-opening 10-game, 11-day road trip to SEA (2-2), OAK (3-0), and LAA (1-0).

The last time BOS won or split each of their first 3 series was in 2018, when they started 3-0-0. Boston leads MLB with a 1.60 ERA (13 ER/73.1 IP), the club’s lowest mark through 8 games in the Live Ball Era (since 1920).

Kenley Jansen retired all 3 batters he faced in the 9th inning last night to earn his 423rd career save, breaking a tie with Billy Wagner for 6th-most in MLB history...He’s pitched in each of the Red Sox’ last 3 games (also Tuesday and Wednesday at OAK). Jansen is 1 save away from tying John Franco (424) for 5th on MLB’s all-time saves list.

Jarren Duran leads the AL in stolen bases (6) and ranks 2nd in hits (13), AVG (.394), and OBP (.459)

Tyler O’Neill last night recorded his 6th career multi-HR game (previous: 8/29/22 at CIN)
