WHAT’S UP

The Red Sox will try and secure a series win on Sunday afternoon against the White Sox from Guaranteed Rate Field. After a rally in the top of the ninth inning on Saturday afternoon to tie the game, the Sox fell short after the White Sox walked it off with an Elvis Andrus base hit to right field to earn the win.

Bobby Dalbec returns to the Sox lineup for the first time since April 13. The 27-year-old has torn up Triple-A the last couple of months, but an injury to Pablo Reyes is the ultimate reason why Dalbec is back in the bigs.

Jarren Duran stole three bases on Saturday which tied the most base thefts by a Sox player in the last 10 years. The last player to do that was Mookie Betts back on May 17, 2018 against the Orioles. Duran now has 14 stolen bases this season.

Caleb Hamilton will make his first start with the Red Sox. The 28-year-old entered Saturday afternoon’s game after Rob Refsnyder pinch hit for Connor Wong. Hamilton has been with the WooSox al season, and is known for being an exceptional defensive catcher.

Kutter Crawford is back on the mound for the rubber match. The righty is coming off one of his best starts of the season, where he tossed five shutout innings against the Twins last week. He will look to build off that outing, he owns a 5.63 ERA and a 1.54 WHIP in his last four starts.

Crawford will make his first career start against the White Sox.

The Sox will face White Sox lefty Tanner Banks this afternoon, which will be the first southpaw they’ve seen in in over a week and half. Boston has faced nine consecutive righties but they’ll go on a run of facing lefties moving forward (three of the next four games).

PRE-GAME NOTES

James Paxton left Saturday’s start after 63 pitches with right knee soreness. The Sox aren’t worried about his current knee issue and expect the lefty to make his next start.

Paxton told WEEI’s Rob Bradford that he’s dealt with his knee issue/soreness in the past.

“He was sore, so we were thinking ahead,” Alex Cora said. “Took him out of the game, and he should be OK.”
