WHAT’S UP
The Sox will look to make it two in row over the White Sox on Saturday afternoon. Following Friday night’s 3-1 win, James Paxton takes the bump with a 2-0 and 3.28 ERA in five starts against the ChiSox. This season, Paxton has provided a massive bump to Alex Cora’s rotation, he has 51 strikeouts in 38 1/3 innings through seven starts.
Triston Casas and Jarren Duran return to the lineup after sitting out against Lucas Giolito. Duran is hitless in his last nine at-bats, but despite that, he’s been one of the Sox hottest hitters. Over his last 12 games, the speedy outfielder is batting .345 (11-for-32) with five doubles and 4 RBI. This includes his three doubles on Monday against the Twins.
Bobby Dalbec was recalled from Triple-A Worcester on Friday and is with the team for the weekend series. Dalbec has been on fire for the WooSox batting.296 with a .414 on-base percentage, .638 slugging percentage, 1.051 OPS, 18 homers, nine doubles, two triples, 48 runs and 42 RBIs in 54 games.
Cora revealed how he might use Dalbec while he is back with the big league club. He is expected to play on the corner infield and a possible emergency outfielder. With David Hamilton on the roster, it’s unlikely Dalbec will see anytime at shortstop.
“While he’s here, he’s going to get chances to contribute. And he’s ready to go. That’s part of being a big leaguer, a professional baseball player,” said Cora to reporters on Friday. “He sees what’s going on here. He expressed his opinion. But at the same time, he belongs to us. He’s with us. And he’s been working hard to get better. In this business, you’re always one injury away from coming up here and contributing. He’s here right now and hopefully, he’s in the right frame of mind. And whenever he gets a shot, just go ahead and keep doing the things you were doing at Triple-A.”
Lance Lynn is coming off a monster start on Sunday where he struck out 16 batters, which was a career high for the veteran right-hander. Lynn is 2-1 with a 2.05 ERA in eight appearances during his career.
