Final: Red Sox 2, White Sox 7 - Red Sox struck out 14 times, White Sox end 14-game losing streak taken at BSJ Headquarters (Red Sox)

(USA Today Sports)

Trevor's Game Notes:

Strike Outs: The Red Sox lost 7-2 to the White Sox, who ended their 14-game losing streak. Facing off against Chicago's ace Garrett Crochet, Boston struck out a combined 14 times. Considering there are 27 outs in a game, striking out 14 times doesn't help your chances of winning. Both Crochet and Johnathan Cannon, who pitched in relief, did not allow a run via a hit.

Odd 2 Runs: In the 3rd inning, Crochet allowed the only 2 runs for the Red Sox from an errant throw. Jaren Duran hit a soft ground ball near the pitcher's mound, and Crochet missed the throw to 1st base ball trying to get Duran out at 1st. The throw went down right field and Bobby Dalbec scored from 1st. The White Sox tried to appeal the previous play, as Duran didn't step on 1st base. Crochet threw another errant ball to 1st, and Duran scored from 3rd. This didn't affect Crochet, as he would go on to strike out 10 Red Sox batters in the game.

The Long Ball: The Red Sox gave up 3 home runs in the game, allowing 7 runs overall. After a strong first couple innings, Cooper Criswell would give up 3 earned runs. In the 1st inning, gave up a solo home run to Luis Robert. Greg Weissert took over for Criswell midway in the 5th inning. He would pitch into the 6th inning, where he would allow back-to-back home run Gavin Sheets and Andrew Vaughn.

WHAT'S UP

The Red Sox have won consecutive games vs. Atlanta and at Chicago by a combined score of 23-2. Boston won yesterday’s series opener against the White Sox, 14-2. Boston recorded a season-high 24 hits and 36 total bases. It was their most hits since 8/24/23 at Houston (25 hits).

Jarren Duran (4-for-5, 2 R, HR, 2 RBI, BB, SF) hit a 1st-inning leadoff HR and tied a season high in hits.

Jamie Westbrook (1-for-2, R, HR, RBI) recorded his 1st career HR, a pinch-hit HR in the 7th inning. He gets his 2nd career start at 2nd base

Tanner Houck (7.0 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 9 SO, HB) tossed his 11th quality start on the season, tying José Berríos for the Major League lead. Houck also

has a 1.91 ERA, the 4th-lowest mark in MLB (2nd in AL) and leads MLB pitchers in fWAR (2.9).

Rafael Devers ranks among the AL leaders in SLG (5th, .569), OPS (5th, .947), and OBP (7th, .378). He leads MLB 3rd basemen in SLG and OPS, and ranks 2nd in OBP.

In his first formal media availability since February 2020, Red Sox principal owner John Henry stated that he has no plans to sell the Red Sox. He also told reporter Sara Germano via email that he feels fans’ expectations to contend for World Series championships on a yearly basis are unrealistic.
