Chris Sale tossed seven innings, giving up two runs and threw a season high 111 pitches in the Red Sox 4-2 win over the Padres. Enmnauel Valdez hit his third home run of the season, doubled to right field while driving in three runs pacing the Red Sox offense. Kenley Jansen had another shaky ninth inning, earns his 10th save. Boston is now winners of four straight games and will look to sweep the Padres on Sunday.

Chris Sale takes the mound for the Red Sox coming off a stellar performance last Saturday against the Cardinals. Despite not earning the win, Sale tossed eight innings, surrendering one run, giving up three hits, one walk and had nine strikeouts. The southpaw has thrown six-plus innings in each of his last three starts, he’s posted a 2-0 record with a 2.21 ERA with 24 strikeouts during that span. Boston starting pitchers have tossed five innings in 21 of their last 22 games, including each of their last eight.
