Final: Red Sox 4, Padres 1 - Red Sox avoid sweep against Padres to wrap up their homestand
Trevor's Game Notes
Shutdown defense: The Red Sox defeated the Padres in the final game of their series limiting San Diego to 1 run. Josh Winckowski had a great outing in his first start since May 2nd.He recorded the win today pitching 5 innings, shutting out the Padres during his time on the mound. Brennan Bernadino, Justin Slaten, Chris Martin and Kenley Jansen pitched in relief for Winckowki, allowing a combined 1 run to keep the Red Sox in front. Boston can credit this offensive shutdown to their defense. David Hamilton and Enmanuel Valdez converted 2 double plays in consecutive innings (3rd and 4th), and Ceddanne Rafaela made a run-saving catch in center field during the 5th inning.

Stars Shining: Rafael Devers and Jarren Duran were the primary contributors to the Red Sox offense today. In the 1st inning, Devers opened the scoring with a 2-run opposite field home run against knuckle ball starter Matt Waldron. This is his 18th home run of the year.

Boston didn't have any problem facing off against Waldron's knuckle ball. The Padres starter had a hard time dealing with control. This issue lead to Boston's 3rd run of the game when Wilyer Abreu scored from 3rd base on a passed ball.
The Red Sox will head to Miami to start a 3 game series against the Marlins to start off July.

The Red Sox have lost 3 consecutive games for the 1st time since 5/15-18 (4 games). On Friday, the Padres scored 11 runs against Boston, 7 of those runs off Tanner Houck. The Red Sox weren't able to produce hits in the game as well, with only Jarren Duran getting a solo home run to prevent Boston from being shut out.
