Final: Red Sox 9 vs Diamondbacks 4 - Rutschman hits first home run with Red Sox in victory

The Boston Red Sox win their second consecutive game against the Arizona Diamondbacks 9-4.

Boston's successful hitting continued in tonight, as the Red Sox recorded 13 total hits from eight players in their lineup. Despite Ranger Suarez facing a setback in the third inning, the Red Sox immediately responded with sustained offensive production, including Adley Rutschman's first home run in a Red Sox uniform.

Boston started the game with a 3-0 lead. In the first inning, they loaded the bases against Merrill Kelly, and Rutschman drove home two runs on a base hit to right field. Caleb Durbin then followed with an RBI sac fly.

Suarez faced the minimum amount of batters through his first two innings, but the lefty faced back luck in the third. With two outs, Suarez allowed two singles and a hit-by-pitch which loaded the bases for Arizona, and Gabriel Moreno delivered a grand slam to left field to give the Diamondbacks their first lead.

However, the Red Sox made a quick response in the same inning. Rutschman smashed a solo home run to deep right field which tied the game.

And with two outs, Durbin scored on a past ball to regain the lead for Boston.

From there, the Red Sox tallied four additional runs between the fifth and seventh innings. Of those four runs, Mickey Gasper drove in two, including a 414 ft solo home run to center field in the sixth inning.

Despite allowing four runs, Suarez picked up the win and limited the Diamondbacks to four hits and two walks. Boston also received scoreless relief appearance from Tyron Guerrero, Erik Miller and Wyatt Olds to wrap up the contest.

The Red Sox will finish their series against the Diamondbacks tomorrow at 4:10 p.m. with Payton Tolle on the mound.

The Boston Red Sox continue their series agains the Arizona Diamondbacks after last night's 11-1 victory. 

Garrett Crochet spent Tuesday afternoon playing catch on the Fenway Park field. “I’m quite hopeful,” Crochet said before throwing on Tuesday. “I’m not gonna say (when), because I don’t know. The past couple times I’ve been like, ‘Oh yeah, I probably don’t even need to go on the IL and here I (expletive) am, four months later. Right now, I’m trying to practice delayed gratification with myself. Unless I’m crossing the finish line, I’m not going to start celebrating.”

An MRI revealed a “significant” strain on Masataka Yoshida's left hamstring, Tracy said. With just 37 games left in the regular season, a return remains unclear unless the Red Sox make some noise in the postseason.
